Top 3 Podcasts (and some special mentions)
Like everyone else, I've really embraced podcasts over the past couple of years. I've listened to tons - from murder investigations, to nutritional advice, to a BBC Radio 4 sustainability series. Some I've lost interest in half way through, and others I wait patiently eagerly desperately every week for my phone to notify me of a new episode and then listen to it IMMEDIATELY.
In this post I will be detailing my Top 3 Podcasts (currently), along with some special mentions and a number of podcasts I have on my own 'to listen to' list:
I had to give this the number one spot. Not just because I adore Fearne Cotton, but because I've waited for what seems like forever for Series 2 (first episode released last week) and after listening it's reminded me why I love it so much. It might seem like your typical guest/interviewer format, but what's great about Happy Place is that Fearne's guests completely open up about their lives; about what makes them happy, or a lot of the time reflecting on what makes them unhappy. It's relevant and relatable. What I also love is that her guests aren't always super famous people (don't get me wrong, she has famous people - Gary Barlow and Stephen Fry, for example), but people who she has got to know along her career and whose stories are bloody well worth telling.
Ok, so I really enjoy this podcast but I understand that Jessie Ware and her Mother may not be everyone's cup of tea (I thought they were, but then I recommended this to my own Mother filled with confidence that she'd love it and she said they were a bit annoying). The basic concept is that Jessie invites people over for dinner and chats to them about this and that, before remembering the name of her podcast and asking them what their worse table manner is and what they'd have as their meal on death row. They also have some cracking guests (The Mayor of London, for goodness' sake) and Jessie's Mum is a character. Go and choose a few episodes with people you're interested in and let me know your thoughts.
I couldn't not put these two in my top 3. Mark introduced them to me and I've been obsessed with them for over 2 years now. They're Australian Radio DJ's (don't let that put you off). They had a long running radio show which became a daily podcast. When they came off the radio last year and started doing their own thing they set up a weekly podcast which is much more manageable. You'll soon fall in love with their silliness.
Special Recommendations:
My Dad wrote a Porno: I would have put this in my top 3, but what's the point in recommending something that I'm sure the majority of people are already on board with? But if you are one of the few who hasn't listened to this yet, then I encourage you to do so because it is HILARIOUS. Like actually laugh out loud funny. I've had to stop listening to it at work because people stare.
The Greg James Podcast: I've always loved Greg James - he's quick witted and clever. And Chris Smith who also features on the podcast is equally so. A very easy listen.
My 'to listen to' List:
The High Low (I know, I'm way behind)
Homecoming (radio drama by Gimlet)
The Joe Rogan Experience (again, I know I'm way behind)
Do you have any more recommendations for me? Please do let me know your thoughts if you end up listening to any of the podcasts I've recommended!
