Moment of Reflection
Mum sent me that little plaque in the post when I got my new job.
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined.
The power of positive thinking! There's definitely something in that. I saw an interview with Jim Carrey recently who told a great story about the power of self-belief. When he was first starting out in his career, he wrote himself a cheque for $10, 000, 000 and dated it 3 years in the future. 6 months before that date he was able to cash it in as he'd just earned that exact amount for making a film. He believed that he could achieve it and it happened.
I believe that if you want something enough you can make it happen. You want a better job? Enhance your skills, improve your CV, apply for jobs in different companies/sectors/areas of the country and you will be successful. You'd like to get a better body (i.e. you look at too many photos on Instagram/Pinterest and you want to look like those ridiculously hot girls in bikinis)? Then get to the gym, get a personal trainer, run, eat healthily, drink more water. Disclaimer: you may not look like those girls in the photos! But you'll be a fitter, healthier, happier version of yourself. You want to fall in love? Live in the present and believe that you deserve to be loved. (I could go on but I think you get the general idea).
I've set myself a new goal (Jim Carrey style). This time next year I want to be living and working in Australia. I'm going to take a year (or maybe more) to explore the Australian way of life. And I may not stop at Australia. I think I've decided what I want to do with my 20's and it's to travel and explore so I have lots of writing material. I've always said that you can only write (well) about what you know. And I want to make sure I experience enough to have a good foundation for writing passionately.
So the next year will be spent saving! As well as enjoying living in a new place and meeting new people (The Swindon Adventure).
For those of you who have taken the plunge and travelled during your 20's (or perhaps in your 30's or 40's or beyond) - how do you think it has benefited you?
I always love hearing from you so leave me some comments!
Thank you, as always, for reading.

That's a nice gift to have at the start of something new.
ReplyDeleteYou know, when I started working, it was my dream to go travelling too. I had planned on visiting at least a couple of countries before turning 30. But things never worked out. Something or the other always came in the way. And that bothers me a lot. I worry that these dreams may remain unrealised. Have you seen the movie "Up," specifically, the first ten minutes or so? I fear that my life will turn out like that too. The bright side is that I still have just over three years to realise those dreams, although I don't have a clue as to how.
Anyway, nice post. Why Australia though? And thanks for the kind words on the "Grief" post.
